If so...could one a) get dual citizenship b) import an RS Avant to the land of hockey and maple-leafs c) drive across the border with Canadian plates and d) have an extended "visit" with said RS Avant?

I have no idea if it is possible, maybe the way to go would be to register a business presence in Canada which owns the car and 'commute'? Would depend on the requirements to own/register a car in Canada but would give you a legitimate reason for having a Canadian vehicle...

I see cars with CA tags all the time at the Jersey shore...seems like no big deal.

There's nothing stopping you from doing it!

Except maybe Canada's citizenship rules, whatever they are.

Ironically, this happens a lot here in Brazil. Poeple pay about $300 to a guy who gets them a Paraguay Passport. Then they buy a stolen E60 Touring for example and drive it around Brazil with Paraguay plates. They just have to cross borders from time to time to reset the counter.

It depends on what the local authorities are like I imagine, if they notice a foreign vehicle permanently outside a residence, they might start esquiring as to why this Canadian vehicle is never in Canada.

In the UK, you're supposed to register a foreign car here if it's been here longer than 6 out of 12 months, if you're visiting. If you're planning on importing it permanently you're supposed to register it straight away.

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/p…

"You cannot import a vehicle that was manufactured to meet the safety standards of a country other than the United States or Canada unless the vehicle is the following:

15 years old or older (excluding buses);

a bus manufactured before January 1, 1971; or

entering Canada temporarily.

If the vehicle you are planning to import into Canada is less than 15 years old or is a bus manufactured on or after January 1, 1971, you must prove that your vehicle qualifies for one of the above exemptions. You can find details on determining the age of a vehicle, types of temporary imports and conditions under which a vehicle may be imported temporarily by referring to the previous section called "Importing vehicles acquired in the United States.""

Somehow Canadian vehicle laws prohibit Morgan 3-Wheelers, while our native Can-Am and T-rex atrocities stay.

I am sad.

But it does mean you can get a lot of cool Kie cars. There is an Autozam AZ-1 somewhere in Alberta. I'm on a quest to find it.
